Workshop: Bioeconomy Development and System Dynamics Model Building

2020-03-09

On March 5-6, 2020, the Institute hosted a workshop in order to discuss the possibilities of using the system dynamics method to build a model which enables its users to analyze the development of different sections of bioeconomy at the national level. The system dynamics method uses structures that allow for reflecting non-linear relations, in which feedbacks serve as a basis for complex systems. Thus, it allows for developing and testing relations between system elements and considering the needs resulting from changing socio-economic reality on an ongoing basis.

The workshop was organized under the BIOEASTsUP project funded by the Horizon 2020 program. As part of the project activities, a team was established, which in the coming months will work on the application of the discussed methodology in creating a model for Poland taking into account its potential application in other countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

The workshop was organized by professor Stelios Rozakis from the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation/ the Technical University of Crete, professor Andra Blumberga, professor Gatis Bazbauers, and professor Dagnija Blumberga from Riga Technical University, as well as Paweł Chmieliński, PhD, and Marek Wigier, PhD, from the IAFE-NRI. The workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, the University of Western Macedonia, Cracow University of Economics, as well as the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation and the IAFE-NRI.
